首屆澳大利亞文學翻譯論壇舉行

首屆澳大利亞文學翻譯論壇于10月15日在北京外國語大學舉行。論壇期間對李堯從事文學翻譯38周年來在澳大利亞文學翻譯領域所作出的卓越貢獻進行了表彰。

澳大利亞駐華大使安思捷女士向學者兼翻譯家李堯表示祝賀，并贊揚他對澳大利亞文學翻譯所作出的重要貢獻。安思捷說：“李堯在翻譯澳大利亞文學方面作出了卓越貢獻。得益于李堯的努力付出，許多深受人們喜愛的澳大利亞作家的作品可以走進中國的課堂、圖書館和千家萬戶。”

近40年來，李堯翻譯或與人合譯了數十部澳大利亞作家的文學作品，這些作家包括：彼得·凱里、安妮塔·海斯、考琳·麥卡洛、托馬斯·肯尼里和亞歷克西斯·賴特等。其早期翻譯作品包括與北京外國語大學教授胡文仲合作翻譯的澳大利亞作家、諾貝爾文學獎獲得者帕特里克·懷特的長篇小說《人樹》。此后，他翻譯了30余部澳大利亞文學、歷史和回憶錄作品，其中包括多部澳大利亞文學經典名作以及體現澳大利亞當代社會多樣性和澳洲土著的書籍。

據悉，目前中國至少有33個澳大利亞研中心，澳大利亞文學研究深受學者和學生們的青睞。

English abstract:  The first Australian Literature Translation Forum took place at the Beijing Foreign Studies University on October 15. An award ceremony was held during the forum in honor of Chinese translator Li Yao. Li received a special award from the Australian government for his contribution to the translation of Australian literary works into Chinese. The forum also held a ceremony for the 38th anniversary of Li 's translation career. The Australian Ambassador to China, Jan Adam, attended the event and congratulated Li. Over the past 40 years, Li translated 30 books, either independently or collaboratively, by Australian writers such as Peter Carey and Colleen McCullough. One of his earliest translation works, jointly completed with another translator Hu Wenzhong, is the famous novel The Tree of Man by Australian novelist Patrick White, the 1973 Nobel Prize-winner.
